Monument located adjacent to the cathedral
Unveiled on November 26th, 2000, the eight foot bronze statue portrays a dynamic John Paul II. The monument is the work of sculptor Krystyna Faldyga - Solska. In the wake of the Pontiff's death, the placing of candles in front of the monument turned it into a kind of spontaneous shrine, as shown in the photograph on the right. As shown below, as time passed, the shrine became larger and larger.

Monument located in front of the new Basilica
The work of Krakow sculptor Marian Konieczny, the monument was unveiled on September 15, 1999. The bronze figures stand on a granite pedestal, the monument rising to a height of 14 feet. In an echo of medieval painting, it portrays John Paul II being offered a model of the Basilica by the kneeling Rev. Eugeniusz Makulski the custodian of the Marian Sanctuary and the man whose vision and dedicated effort over the last third of a century or more find expression in a Basilica which, when completed, will be the seventh largest in Europe.
In another echo to medieval painting, portrayed on a bronze frieze that surrounds the granite pedestal is a procession of some 30 individuals including the architect of the Basilica, Barbara Bielecka, and the donor of the monument, Grzegorz Tuderek, Managing Director of Budimex, the Poland-based International Construction Company which is building the Basilica.

Monument on St. Joseph's Square.
The monument by Warsaw sculptor Jan Kucz stands at the location where the Pontiff said mass when he visited the city. Unveiled on May 30th 1999, it has a height of 11 feet, the bronze statue standing of a granite base. It portrays the Pope as bending towards a small girl who has cuddled up to him extending her hand towards his, though the hands do not touch. The monument is noted for the treatment of the Pontiff's vestments which appear lighter and more natural than in many other sculptures.

The work of the Italian sculptor Jole Sensi Croci, the bronze statue was a gift that Italian artists gave to John Paul II in 1980 and one he proffered to his native archdioceses of which he had been the archbishop in the years 1964-1978.

Located in Park Srzelecki (Riflemen's Park) adjacent to Lubicz Street.
The statue was unveiled on July 1, 2000 by Cardinal Franciszek Macharski. The artist of the six foot high statue, Czeslaw Dzwigaj, was inspired by a photograph taken at a Papal audience in which was included a delegation of the Fraternity of the Kurkowie, an Association of Riflemen which owns the Park; at one time it used the location for sharpshooting practice. The photo in the center derives from a self-guided tour entitled Ścieżkami Jana Pawla II (Along the footpaths' of John Paul II) on the website of Magiczny Krakow. KRAKÓW-MISTRZEJOWICE
Monument located adjacent to St. Maksymilian Kolbe's Church in Mistrzejowice
Unveiled on January 1991, the statue was a gift of Tomislaw Kecman and Risto Gusterov of Macedonia. Including its base, the monument rises to a height of 16 feet. It is the first papapl statue created by Gustaw Zemla.

Monument located in Kraków's Rakowiecki Cemetary
The monument was unveiled on April 10, 2005, that is on the morrow of the funeral of John Paul II in Rome. The work of Czeslaw Dzwigaj, the 5 foot monument of the kneeling Pope stands at the entrance of the path leading to the burial places of the Pope's parents and brother which the Pope visited on each of his nine pilgrimages to Poland.
