Dear Brothers and Sisters,
I am praying to God, may He make your hearts responsive to others’ grieves and misfortunes, strengthen your willingness to render assistance to those in need.
To our big regrets, in our community a big misfortune happened to our parishioner Oksana Kalmykova, an Ukrainian who is 26 years old. Many of you know her very well. She is a person of good and kind character. She was working for a few tourist companies in Bangkok and Pattaya, supporting herself and her mother, and helping to church, when she had such opportunity.

Oksana has been having health problems, the doctors could not diagnose the disease for a long time, which happen to be distressing – Hodgkin’s lymphoma. This is a serious oncological disease, a type of cancer, which cause is still unknown. During this disease, a person’s lymph nodes become damaged because of cells mutations, and at later stages other organs get affected. Unfortunately, Oksana has already missed the time of the first stage.
The conditions of her sickness do not give us even time to properly collect the financial aid, but require immediate intervention.
The required treatment needs to be paid. Oksana has no money, neither medical insurance. The doctors have a concern that she would not be able to pay for the treatment and may delay intensive chemical and radiation therapies, and other expensive treatments. Considering medical advice, Oksana is not able to fly to Ukraine without serious risk for worsening her health conditions.
Surely, God have the power to decide about life and death, but in case of immediate beginning of the treatment, the doctors are talking about possible chance of relative remission of the disease. The total cure is possible as well, it depends on Oksana’s resistance to the disease, which can be assessed with confidence only after 5 years of observation.
The treatment in a government hospital includes 6 months of therapy and the total cost is preliminary estimated as up to 1,200,000 thai baht (more than 33,000 USD)***.
Therefore, with gratefulness to God and with gratitude to you all, I witness our readiness to receive all possible financial
help, which you can offer to support the treatment for Oksana. *** Treatment of Hodgkin’s lymphoma
Methods:
• Radiation therapy
• Chemotherapy
• Combination of Radiation therapy and chemotherapy
• High dose chemotherapy, followed by transplantation of marrow.
Radiation therapy is conducted by special devices. The selected groups of lymphatic nodes are exposed under radiation.
For chemotherapy, currently the scheme ABVD is used (Adriamycin, bleomycin, vinblastine, and dacarbazine) with cycles of 28 days during the minimum period of 6 months.
Most promising and effective method of treatment is a combination of chemical an radiation therapies, which may result in 10-20 years long remissions.
